Living with Alzheimhers

My husband has advanced Alzheimers and is also doubly incontinent.  I also have a special needs daughter who depends on me.

Mercy, one of our home care assistants visits David 7 mornings a week for 90 minutes. She helps David get washed and dressed and have breakfast. My husband accepted Mercy from day one and has no problem at all with this help for his personal care.  Mercy will eat with him, which I think is very important to us. It keeps David sitting at the table, and he likes a one-to-one as he is always talking.

Mercy has now become a good friend of mine, and is like family. She gets on like a house on fire with my daughter too. The three of us sing together in the house! My grand daughter loves her too.

Jordan, another home care assistant,  visits us for a couple of afternoons each week. He sits and chats with David or they go for a walk, watch TV together, or sit and have lunch. Jordan makes him rolls and crisps. Whatever the activity, Jordan tries to get him engrossed in they are doing.

Tanya visits on a Saturday afternoon for 3 hours. I really appreciate this as it allows me get my hair washed and blow dried.  I can go out and not give David a thought, knowing that Tanya is there.

My Client Admin, Damien has a heart of gold. I just tell me what I want and he will do his best for me. I have never met him,  but I know him like the back of my hand from all our telephone calls.

You can deal with all the medical people but come live with me and walk in my footsteps.

Only for Damien, Mercy, Jordan and Tanya, I would be confined to the house.
