10 Private HomeCare Staff Participate in a Special Purpose Certificate in Dementia Care and Support

10 staff from Private HomeCare have participated in a Special Purpose Certificate in Dementia Care and Support, fully funded by Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board, delivered by Irish Times Training.

Private HomeCare founder and MD Elizabeth Nicholson said “Private HomeCare recognises the importance of a QQI course dedicated to Dementia Care and Support. In addition to our own training, we are fully behind training as many of our staff on this programme as possible.”

Therese Enright, Community Social Care Supervisor in Private HomeCare, is one of the learners on this programme “This is totally different to anything I have done before. It takes an in-depth look at dementia. It looks at home care clients or nursing home residents as individuals and how we can meet their individual needs. We have 11 classes between now and September. Our group also meets weekly via Zoom. In addition to the extensive training I have already had, this course will be a great asset to all of us. The trainer is fantastic and I am already learning a lot.”

The aim of the programme is to “develop skilled, self-aware, and reflective Health Care Support Assistants who are equipped to care for people with dementia ….. so that they may live well for longer in their own homes and communities.”

Private HomeCare cares for people of all ages and abilities in their own home, many of whom live with dementia.
