Types and parts of tracheostomy tubes

There are various types and sizes of tracheostomy tubes available. The doctor will choose the tube most suitable to the child's need. Different tubes may be tried until the most comfortable and appropriate one is found. The tubes used most frequently are:
Parts of tube:
1. Neck flange – this is where the ties are attached to hold the tracheostomy tube in place.
2. Obturator – a guide placed inside the tube when the tube is being inserted. The obturator is removed immediately after the tube is placed.
